A tinge of green on an otherwise dry Chandigarh pitch will encourage Australia to choose three fast bowlers and spinner Nathan Hauritz for Friday's first Test against India.
Following some heavy rain, the Mohali surface has more grass than is usual two days out from the Test, leaving question marks about its hardness and pace.
Nielsen said the balance of the Australian team had improved, with Marcus North's offspin a viable support option in addition to the left-arm occasionals of Simon Katich and Michael Clarke.
"I think we showed in Australia that it's the balance of our attack that's getting closer and closer to where we want it to be," he said.
"We've got (Shane) Watson bowling more, we probably need to be a bit more consistent both our quicks and our spinners than we were against Pakistan.
Given the strong form displayed by the young South Australian quick Peter George, chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch, who arrived in Chandigarh on Tuesday afternoon, has a decent back-up should Bollinger struggle to make the first Test.
"We'll make sure that Doug gets a another bowl in tomorrow and that he's up and going and his body's fine," said Nielsen.
