India second to Ashes

Ricky Ponting is looking forward to playing India, but the Australian captain can't help but keep one eye on the forthcoming Ashes series.
Ponting, 35, will lead Australia in the first Test against India in Mohali on Friday,

While acknowledging that India constitute one of Australia's more significant rivals, Ponting candidly admitted that arch-enemies England remain the No.1 foe.

"To take on the No.1 ranked test team in the world is a great challenge for the Australian cricket team and one that we're looking forward to," Ponting said.

"We'd love to come here and win and we know how competitive a series it was last time we came here."

Ponting also dismissed the suggestion that he was past his best, vowing to play on for the foreseeable future.
"The finish line is not in sight yet, I've got so much exciting cricket to come in the next 18 months. I'm as excited as I've ever been in my career about what lies ahead."

"I'm 35 and there's been a bit about in the last couple of days about me being past my best but we'll see. We'll see what this series holds and we'll see what the Ashes holds. I'm feeling better about myself and about my game than I have in a long time."
