Ferguson has been included in the squad following his successful return from a knee reconstruction during the Twenty20 Champions League.
Playing for South Australia in South Africa, Ferguson hit 200 runs in five matches with a strike rate of 151 after almost 12 months on the sidelines.
"I wasn't holding my breath in getting picked for this series," Ferguson said on Wednesday.
"I thought it would take me at least 10 to 12 games to start feeling comfortable at the crease again, but it probably came a bit earlier.
"We did a lot of work in the nets and a lot of centre wicket stuff, so that's probably helped me progress a little quicker than expected."
The right-hander ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament when he slipped while fielding in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy at Centurion, in South Africa, in October 2009.
His return to the national team will allow him to build on his solid record which has so far reaped 599 runs from 25 matches at a strike rate of 85.
