Explosive batsman Dave Warner has five days to catch selectors' eyes for World Cup berth

Ambitious batsman Dave Warner wants to be the new Adam Gilchrist.

The national selectors are sizing up Warner as a possible top-order option for the 2011 World Cup on the subcontinent, where runs are in the first 15 overs will be at a premium before the ball softens and the spinners take control.

But Warner, whose destructive hitting had been typecast as Twenty20 option.

"I see myself similar to Adam Gilchrist, more of an X-factor player," he said.

"Everyone was saying, right, we've got to get Adam out. If we don't, he could put on a hundred in 10 overs. I look up to him as the kind of impact player I want to be.
Warner believes he has matured since his dramatic entry to the international scene with a blazing 89 against South Africa in front of an appreciative MCG crowd in early 2009.

Warner knows people expect him to hit more balls out of more stadiums than Babe Ruth.

"I'm still going to play the same way I play, but not trying to go after every ball - I've got 50 overs, not 20.

"Now I reckon I'm mature enough that I can try to last 50 overs."
