Marcus North bats himself into the Ashes,North's timely ton,North silences critics

Marcus North shrugged off his Australian recent form slump with a career-best 128 on day two of the second Test against India on Sunday.

Marcus North has silenced his critics with a superb 128 as Australia were bowled out for 478 just before tea in the second Test against India in Bangalore.

North's 240-ball knock included 17 boundaries and a six as he ensured the visitors posted their best ever score in Bangalore.

North, 31, answered his critics with his fifth Test century in Australia's first innings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

"I knew I was under pressure going into this game, not just from outside forces but also from the standards I set myself," North said.

"I've had a couple of disappointing Test matches so I thought it was an opportunity to go in on a pretty good batting surface and get a score.

"It is a satisfying hundred without a doubt because I was under a lot of pressure, the last Test before the Ashes.

"It was nice to get a score and contribute."

India 128 for 2 (Tendulkar 44*, Vijay 42*) trail Australia 478 (North 128, Paine 59, Harbhajan 4-148, Ojha 3-120) by 350 runs
