Arguably the highest profile player to avoid the riches of the IPL in its early seasons, Clarke is considering playing the event in the year of the next World T20 event, after excelling as captain but struggling with the bat during this year's tournament in the Caribbean.
"The more you play the more experience you get, that's why it is important for me to get home for one day and then fly to Perth (for the T20)," said Clarke.
"I need to play as much T20 cricket as I can, but I also need to sum up my body and my life as well, when it comes to choosing six weeks at home to have a break or spend that six weeks in the IPL.
A personal reluctance to give up precious time at home in Sydney has played a large part in Clarke's absence from the IPL so far.
"Some guys will use the six weeks to go and play the IPl, whereas for me in the past those six weeks have benefited no doubt my cricket but also my life," he said.
"I love the cricket, I'd play cricket every day, but I wish I could paly from Bondi at the SCG (all the time)."
