The New South Wales Blues have cruised to victory in their Ryobi One-Day Cup match against the Queensland Bulls at the Gabba, chasing down the required 68 runs for victory with six wickets in hand and more than 12 overs remaining.

For the victors, 18-year-old Nic Maddison was extremely impressive in dealing the quality Bulls attack and was the top-scorer for the Blues.

Surprisingly - in light of the final margin - only two runs separated the sides at the half-way point.

But while the Bulls were able to keep themselves in the game with their bowling attack in the first innings, there was no compensating for their abysmal second-innings batting collapse.

Scott Coyte was the chief destroyer in the second, taking three wickets in four balls before having his hat-trick ball dropped by wicket keeper Peter Nevill.

In reply to Queensland's first innings, the Blues started strongly through openers Phillip Hughes and Phil Jaques, but with Nathan Rimmington, Luke Feldman and Chris Swan turning up the heat, the visitors were restricted to 3-91 from their first dig and only went ahead in the final over of the session when Nic Maddison hit a big six over cover.
