Australian captain Ricky Ponting said he was shocked the Decision Review System was not in place for the first Test against India in Mohali.
There were several suspect LBW decisions paid, and not paid, in Australia's one-wicket loss, and Ponting said he consulted match officials prior to the game asking why the System was not in place.
"I'm a big supporter of the DRS (Decision Review System). I actually queried the ICC referee before the series started about the reason we weren't using the system," he said.
"The one thing I know about the system so far is you definitely get more correct decisions in a game of cricket than you do without it."
The final day produced two contentious LBW calls, both made by New Zealand umpire Billy Bowden, as he firstly fired out Ishant Sharma despite the ball looking to swing past the leg stump with 11 runs required.
Indian No.11 Pragyan Ojha then appeared to be trapped in front by Mitchell Johnson, but Bowden did not lift his finger.
But Ponting blamed neither Bowden nor substitute fielder Steven Smith, who missed a run-out opportunity on the same ball Ojha was not given out LBW, for the loss.
"You don't know how they're going to take it (the close loss) until you see them in a similar situation next time. It's a bit like being a golfer with a couple of shots lead with a couple of holes to go and doesn't get across the line; you don't know whether it's going to be a good experience having been their once or if it's a thing they mightn't overcome next time," he said.
The second and final Test of the series starts on Saturday in Bangalore.
