Shane Warne offers to lend assistance to out-of-form Australia bowler Nathan Hauritz

Shane Warne has offered to lend a hand to help save Nathan Hauritz's Test career - if Australia want him to.

The spin king, who insists Australia must revert to an attacking mindset when Tests are up for grabs, could surely restore Hauritz's shattered confidence.

Shane Warne still regards Hauritz as Australia's No. 1 spinner and claims young leg-spinner Steve Smith is not close to being ready to being tossed into the heat of the Ashes cauldron.

Warne insists he is no messiah but says he is here to help Hauritz if he can be of benefit.

"In my opinion Steve Smith is still a long way short of being Australia's No. 1 Test spinner."

"Australia are always tough to beat at home. They're a pretty proud team. We've always been like that over the last 20 odd years that I've been playing.

"I think we'll give the Poms a run for their money out here."

Ponting responded after the Test loss to India, saying Hauritz's fields were all of his own choosing.

"Every field that Nathan has had to bowl with since he's been here has been at his request - it's the field he wants to bowl to," said Ponting.
