Shaun Marsh aiming to secure World Cup spot

WA opener Shaun Marsh will be looking to press his claims for a World Cup berth when he links up with Australia for the three-match one-day cricket tour of India, starting October 17.

Marsh made a promising start to his one-day career but has spent long periods out of the side over the past 18 months due to two serious hamstring injuries.

And the 27-year-old, who has averaged 38.76 over 27 games for Australia, hopes a run of good form will secure his 2011 World Cup spot.

"Every game I get to play for Australia leading up to the World Cup is going to be crucial for me," Marsh said on Wednesday.

"It would be a dream to play in a World Cup but it's still a long way away."

With the World Cup to be held on the sub-continent, Marsh said the upcoming tour against India held extra importance.
"I'm sure they (the selectors) are looking at players that play well over there," Marsh said.

While cementing his spot in the one-day squad remains Marsh's immediate aim, he still has his sights set on breaking into the Test team, perhaps even in time for this summer's Ashes series.

"For me, the pinnacle is Test cricket and that's always been my dream," Marsh said.

"But I've just got to really start scoring some big hundreds for WA."

Before he jets off to India on Monday, Marsh will open the batting in the Warriors' National One Day Cup clash with Victoria at the WACA Ground on Friday.
