Glenn McGrath's lunch date was no honeymoon

HE had bowled his maiden over the day before, but yesterday Glenn McGrath was back to the business of cricket.

Leaving new bride Sara Leonardi behind at their Woolooware home and with their honeymoon plans on hold, the former fast bowler honoured a speaking engagement in Sydney - less than 24 hours after tying the knot.

As unexpected as his afternoon nuptials were on Thursday, McGrath again surprised guests by fronting for the Randwick Petersham Cricket Club's Ashes lunch at Water's Edge restaurant, Walsh Bay.

Flashing a simple gold wedding band on his ring finger, he used his keynote speech to boast about giving the media the slip on his big day.

Love for Sara, a rose for Jane at Glenn McGrath's wedding

"If Glenn and his family are happy, hasn't that got to be a beautiful thing?"

Making the transition to a new life together appears to have been seamless for the McGrath household.

A Walkers party hire truck collected potted plants and white chairs, used to transform the home into a wedding reception venue.

McGrath's two children, Holly, 11, and James, 9, have also taken the wedding in stride, happily playing and poking fun at the media outside their home.

Their popular father also kept them entertained, returning from the lunch to ferry them to a local bicycle store in Cronulla.
