Ryan Harris shines in front of Ponting on rainy day

Tasmania v Queensland, Sheffield Shield, Hobart, 1st day

Tasmania 4 for 120 (Cosgrove 41*, Harris 3-50) v Queensland
Bad light has stopped play at Bellerive Oval with Tasmania stumbling to 4-120 in their Sheffield Shield match against Queensland.

With the Bulls on top in the first session, rain set in at lunch and stopped play until after tea. A 38-over final session was planned but bad light meant only 20 overs were bowled before stumps was called.

Ponting, who made a start with 32 in a rare Sheffield Shield appearance, was the only wicket Harris didn't manage as he claimed 3 for 50 from 18 overs on a lively Bellerive Oval surface.

However, Ponting got a close-up view of Harris' recovery from knee surgery and will pass on his notes to the Australian selectors as they prepare for Monday's announcement of the opening Ashes squad.

But Ponting, preparing for the opening Test of the Ashes at the Gabba from November 25, edged James Hopes (1-26 from 14 overs) to Chris Lynn at third slip midway through the 22nd over and five overs later Harris struck again by bowling George Bailey (three) when he too failed to play a shot.

As well as Ponting, who came in for Alex Doolan, the Tigers also included wicketkeeper Tim Paine at the expense of Brady Jones, Wells for the injured Steven Cazzulino and Adam Maher in place of Adam Griffith, with James Faulkner carrying the drinks.

The Bulls also made a couple of changes with Harris on the comeback trail and joined in the team by fellow quick Ben Cutting in place of Chris Swan and Cameron Gannon with Luke Feldman named 12th man.
