South Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait admitted he is gunning for a World Cup berth with the Australian one-day side despite undergoing an elbow operation last month after a successful Champions League campaign with the Redbacks in South Africa.
Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has already signalled his desire for Tait to be a part of the tournament which will be co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and kicks off in mid-February 2011.
"From what I've read in the media they're reasonably keen to have me around," he said.
"If I'm showing I can get through a few games I suppose there's no reason why I can't be picked in the squad. I'd look forward to playing in the World Cup."
"It does (excite me) actually. I've been thinking about it a bit but the first thing is to get back on the park and bowling quick again. Hopefully then they can pick me that would be great, but yeah I'm looking forward to the World Cup."
Tait said the elbow injury had been causing him plenty of discomfort.
"After an operation it's hard to put a date on things but positively looking for the first big bash game I think," he said.
The 27 year-old also conceded his days of the 'longer format' are over and admitted he is enjoying the thoroughly enjoying the shorter game.
"I've had two operations on it now so I assume it's going to be sore at some point," he said.
"I'm pretty happy with where I'm at, at the moment. I'm really enjoying the shorter form to be honest. The longer form is well and truly gone now for me. I'm pretty happy with that."
