2010 Movember winner announced

Lane Cove Cricket Club has again proved itself the home of the Mo by winning Cricket Australia’s 2010 Weet-Bix MyCricket Movember competition, building on the club’s 2009 triumph.

Movember is one of CA’s official partners under its charity program, Cricket Cares.

Nineteen MoBros and one MoSista combined to form ‘Cove’s Movember Rain’, raising a total of $10,024 at the conclusion of the promotion on November 30 – though the fundraising didn’t stop there. The team is sitting on a total of $12,089 with a day left before Movember’s official fundraising deadline, placing the team in the top 100 of all Movember teams in Australia.

CA’s official partnership with Movember, – into its third year – helped to raise $61,000 in 2010. The funds are committed to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, beyondblue and the Movember Foundation.

Aussie fast bowlers Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus and Mitchell Johnson threw their support behind the 2010 campaign, each sporting Mo’s in support of the cause.

“They raised donations for that player and made individual donations to his Mo-Space and posted messages of support thereon – all which helped drive additional donations by people not affiliated with Lane Cove Cricket Club.

“The LCCC’s Committee’s prime 2010-11 season objective in mind – “One Club” – we have a real focus in everything we do to integrate the otherwise distinct separate juniors, seniors and veteran players into one cohesive club for the betterment of each of those group.”

In February 2010 Brett Lee visited the club as reward for their fundraising efforts in 2009, assisting with junior training, posing for photos, signing autographs and staying around for a club BBQ attended by 500 people.

Ryan said the club intends to again put on a host of activities when they receive their visit from a CA-contracted player in 2011 and congratulated the other participating cricket clubs across the country.

“We’d also like to thank Cricket Australia for its support and promotion of Movember in 2010.”

CA also provides ‘money can’t buy prizes’ for the overall ’11 or more’ Movember team total. The winning team will receive:

- Five tickets to a Commonwealth Bank Series match in the winning team’s state;
- A visit to the commentary boxes at the venue;
- A trip onto the ground for the Australian team warm-up; and
- Ten signed Movember ODI playing shirts, worn by the team during the Commonwealth Bank Series against Sri Lanka.
