Andrew Symonds' Australian cricket career may be over

Andrew Symonds declares himself unavailable for Queensland Bulls in 2010-2011 KFC Twenty20 Big Bash

Andrew Symonds has declared himself unavailable for the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, choosing instead to focus on purchasing a farm, and effectively ending his cricket career with Queensland.

Queensland Cricket CEO Graham Dixon said on Friday Symonds had told him that he didn't expect to play for the Bulls again.

"Andrew is living in North Queensland and is in the process of purchasing a farm," Dixon said.

Symonds, 35, recently informed Queensland Cricket that he would not be available for selection for the T20 series.

"Andrew is living in North Queensland and is in the process of purchasing a farm. He was pretty upfront with us that he was moving in a direction that didn’t involve playing cricket again for Queensland," he said.

"Our door is always open to him and I am sure he will continue to keep close ties with us."

In his 17-year Queensland career, Symonds played 102 first class games, 85 one-day games and six T20 matches.

His international career included 26 Tests, 198 One Day Internationals and 14 T20 internationals.

Meanwhile newly appointed Big Bash coach Darren Lehmann will be in Brisbane early in the week to meet with Bulls captain James Hopes and the Queensland selection panel to finalise the Bulls squad for the Big Bash series.

Queensland play their first match of the Big Bash on January 2 in Melbourne against Victoria.

They will play three home games at the Gabba – against Tasmania on January 7, New South Wales on January 15 and Western Australia on January 25.
