South Australia 4 for 223 (Ferguson 101*, Cooper 52) beat Tasmania 222 (Cowan 62, Duval 3-33, Christian 3-55) by 6 wickets
Bottom side South Australia have recorded a much-needed Ryobi One-Day Cup victory after polishing off the previously undefeated Tasmania in Hobart on Wednesday night.
The six-wicket upset win was set up by a century from Callum Ferguson which was sure to have caught the eye of national selectors.
Ferguson belted 104 and combined for a 122-run partnership with Tom Cooper, ensuring the Redbacks reached their target of 223 in the 43rd over.
Redbacks skipper Michael Klinger credited the Ferguson-Cooper partnership for the win.
"It was an awesome effort and for Callum (Ferguson) to get a hundred and Christo (Christain) to finish off like that it turned out to be a great game for us," Klinger said.
"They really steadied the ship for us in the first innings when we were three down and to pretty much set it up for Christo to hit a few big bombs at the end was great."
Klinger said the Redbacks’ corresponding Sheffield Shield win earlier this week provided a boost for their confidence.
"We talked about it (the momentum) before the game and it's not so easy to win a double especially when you are playing away. That was a goal of ours so we are going into Saturday's game against the Vics pretty confident."
"It was a great week all-round," he said.
Tasmania captain George Bailey said the Tigers were uncharacteristically off their game but denied they had become complacent at the top of the Ryobi One-Day Cup table.
"I hope that's not that the case. We shouldn't be getting complacent because I don't think we are that far ahead of anyone at this stage."
"We have another game on Saturday so hopefully we bounce back for that," Bailey said.
