"I'm interested to see Ryan Harris bowl ... he's been in great form," Waugh said when quizzed about how Australia could wrestle control back from England.
"He does hit the seam and just nips the ball about either way; he bowls a fullish length so I think he could be a bit of a danger man."
And therein lies the secret.
In just his third Test match, Ryan Harris looms as the man most likely to get Australia back on track in the second Ashes Test according to Fox Sports cricket expert Mark Waugh.
"It's a flat wicket but you only get out of a wicket what you put in; if you run in hard, hit the pitch hard, get the seam straight then there will be something there for you.
"You've got to get the ball in the danger areas - middle stump, middle to off, on a fullish length.
"That's where you want to be bowling.
"If you bowl there you'll create pressure on the batsmen and they'll make mistakes."
While the X-factor of Harris (who England last saw in the one-day series they hosted earlier in the year) may be the key, "any one of our fast bowlers can do some damage", according to Waugh.
A cheeky over before stumps gave Harris his first chance to roll the arm over but the hard work will come when he leads the Australia attack from the outset on day two.
