North, Doherty back for Tas v WA clash

Spurned Test players Marcus North and Xavier Doherty return to their respective states for the Sheffield Shield clash between Tasmania and Western Australia at Bellerive Oval on Friday.

North returns to skipper a Warriors side desperate for a win before Christmas, sitting second last with just eight points from their first five games.

Their last start was a rain-affected draw against Queensland earlier this week.

Captain George Bailey said he was yet to decide whether Doherty would push fellow tweaker Jason Krejza out of the team.

"We'll look a bit more at the weather tomorrow," he said.

"If it does look a bit dry, then we'll look at playing Jason."

The Tigers dropped struggling Jon Wells, with former South Australian Mark Cosgrove to open the batting instead.

"We're probably only thinking short term, but if he has some good success and is happy to stay there, then we're happy to keep him there," Bailey said.

They brought left-arm spinner Aaron Heal and uncapped 18-year-old quick Matt Dixon into their 13-man squad.

Tas: George Bailey (capt), Travis Birt, Luke Butterworth, Mark Cosgrove, Ed Cowan, Xavier Doherty, Alex Doolan, Brendan Drew, James Faulkner, Brady Jones, Jason Krejza, Adam Maher (12th man to be named).

WA: Marcus North (capt), David Bandy, Liam Davis, Matt Dixon, Brett Dorey, Ryan Duffield, Aaron Heal, Michael Hogan, Shaun Marsh, Wes Robinson, Luke Ronchi, Michael Swart, Adam Voges (one to be omitted, 12th man to be named).
