Phil Hughes a lucky boy for winning Test selection

PHIL Hughes will enter the third Ashes Test with a Sheffield Shield average of 16.8 this season after making just 118 runs in seven knocks for NSW

Hughes' return to the Test arena in Perth next week will be must-see TV viewing.

Australia could be 1-0 before anyone has found their seats, or 0-100 at lunch ... with Hughes in the 90s.

Hughes made nought, after a first innings of four, as NSW beat South Australia at the SCG yesterday.

Callum Ferguson scored more runs in this match than Hughes has all season for the Blues.

But Hughes proved last year he can mix it in higher company with two centuries and 615 runs at an average of 51.25 in his first six Tests.

" I'm happy for him to say anything he wants. It's what happens out in the field. There's always pressure. Pressure on the side. Pressure on every individual.

"Even if you're winning, there's still pressure on every individual.

" I'm just over the moon. I could not be happier."

"The stats don't show much but I've scored a few, a couple of 80s that have given me huge confidence."

s To get an 80, push claims and get an 80 against England for Australia A is in the back of my mind and its given me huge confidence going into next week."
