The Australian fast bowler has arrived in Wellington to play for the Firebirds in the HRV Cup Twenty20 Competition and is scheduled to appear in five round-robin games and the final, if the Firebirds qualify.
The 33-year-old is on the comeback trail after 10 months out following elbow surgery and has been playing in the Australian one-day competition for New South Wales, where he has taken 14 wickets in five matches so far.
"If the day comes when I can't bowl over 150kmh I won't play cricket anymore because that's my role to try and bowl fast and, I suppose, try to intimidate batsmen and to try and take wickets," said Lee, who has taken 310 wickets in 76 Tests, 324 scalps in 186 one-day internationals and 17 wickets in 17 Twenty20 matches for Australia.
"I'm hitting the high 140s, tipping 150kmh yesterday (playing in a one-day win over South Australia), which was on a pretty slow wicket," Lee said ahead of his Firebirds debut against the Auckland Aces at the Basin Reserve on Tuesday night.
"I'm hoping there's a Wellington breeze behind me tomorrow, if I'm lucky enough to get the breeze. We'll see how things pan out."
Lee's last match for Australia was a one-day international against India 14 months ago before injury struck.
"The only thing I can worry about is trying to play my best and taking wickets when it counts," he said.
"I've been really happy with my form over the past few weeks. I think the reason why I'm having so much fun out there is I'm not putting any pressure on myself."
"If I'm lucky enough to play for Australia again then fantastic. If I don't, I won't die wondering."
