The Bushrangers have set England 311 to win on the final day of their three-day tour match at the MCG.

Skipper Cameron White declared Victoria's second innings closed before the start of play at the overnight score, 6-278.

Clint McKay remained unbeaten on 58 and Jayde Herrick was 40 not out.

A brief shower swept across the MCG just before the scheduled start of play and scattered showers are forecast for the remainder of Sunday.

Thereafter, England were held up by a pair of debutants, the 20-year-old Ryan Carters, who made 68, and the 18-year-old Alex Keath, who turned his back on an AFL contract with Gold Coast to concentrate on a career in cricket.
