New South Wales clinched a 21-run victory over South Australia in their opening Big Bash match at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday night despite the efforts of Redbacks West Indies import Kieron Pollard.

The star signing entered the fray with the Redbacks languishing at 6-53 and looked to be steering the Redbacks to an unlikely win after spinner Stephen O'Keefe and skipper Stuart Clark took three wickets each to help skittle SA for 147.

The right-hander finished with a stunning 53 from 24 balls, bringing up his half century in only 22 deliveries, smashing an amazing five sixes and two boundaries.

David Warner had to go against his natural instinct but his steady 73 may have been the difference between the two sides

SA keeper Graham Manou was the next to go, caught by Moises Henriques at mid off for a disappointing five.

Hard hitting left-hander Aiden Blizzard followed two deliveries later on four as Clark took his third wicket and the Redbacks had lost 6-53 as the wickets tumbled.

Pollard and Aaron O'Brien provided some resistance, smashing a 49-run partnership before O'Brien was stumped by Nevill for 19 off Nathan Hauritz.

After Pollard was removed at 8-134, English recruit Adil Rashid was dismissed by Doug Bollinger for six, caught by Brett Lee before spinner Nathan Lyon was taken on 11 as Hauritz took his third wicket.
