IPL 4 Will Have 74 Matches, IPL Teams Can Retain 4 Players, Salary Cap at $9 Million

The IPL Governing Council has finally come to an agreement on several issues related to the IPL 4.

The IPL 4 franchisees will now be able to retain four players - maximum of three Indian cricketers - while the rest of the cricketers will have to once again go through the IPL Player auctions to secure contracts.

The number of matches has been reduced from the proposed ninety-four matches to seventy-four IPL match schedule. It will still mean that teams will play the original number of fourteen matches each - seven home and seven away matches as always. The teams though will be split in two groups of five each and the top two from each group will contest in the semi final.

The team can have a squad of no more than thirty players and if they retain none, they will have $9 million dollars going into the auction. If they retain the four players, they will have only $4.5 million to play with.

The finer details will be revealed.

No UDRS for India-Australia Tests in October 2010

The Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) will not be used for the India-Australia Tests in October. "There won't be any UDRS in the series. We have already written to the International Cricket Council," the BCCI's chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty told PTI.
When asked if the UDRS will be used in the World Cup in the subcontinent in 2011, Shetty said the decision rested with the ICC, for the tournament was an ICC event. The ICC approved the implementation of the controversial system for the World Cup in July, subject to agreements over costs and equipment between the broadcast partner, ESPN STAR Sports, and the host nations.
Australia play two Tests and three ODIs on their tour of India in October.
