Lee has spent four long months trying to fight back from an elbow injury and press his claims to play in the showpiece event which starts in February.
Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said yesterday that Lee was disappointed to have missed out on the three-match series against Sri Lanka.
"It's not something that he's particularly happy with, he thinks he's ready to go," Hilditch said.
"Brett wanted to get back to bowling 150km/h and that's what he has been able to do."
CA was accused of a similar lack of communication with Lee's NSW teammate Stuart Clark in the lead-up to last year's Ashes tour.
"I can understand Hilditch saying he might not have done enough, but at the same time you have to pay respect to Brett who has been around the game more than 15 years."
Lee is determined for a final hurrah on the sub-continent, where the World Cup is being held next year.
He has worked to get back his bowling back to top speed and captain Ricky Ponting has expressed his desire to launch a full-throttle attack with Lee and Shaun Tait.
But the former Test spearhead is running out of chances to press his case.
