Langer shows his softer side

McHappy Day Ambassador for WA Justin Langer with Mikayla Pearse and Zachary Pearse.

He may have been one of cricket's most fiercest competitors but today Justin Langer showed his softer side as a McHappy Day ambassador at Ronald McDonald House in Subiaco today.

The cricketer was gearing up for McHappy Day on November 14, with organisers hoping to raise a record $2.5 million for Ronald McDonald House this year.

The charity aims to bring hope and happiness to seriously ill children and their families across Australia.

Though fundraising for McHappy Day officially kicked off on October 18 through its website, donations will be collected at more than 800 McDonald’s restaurants across Australia on the 14th.

Langer, who retired in 2007, was one of Australia’s greatest openers, playing 105 Tests and scoring 7,696 runs including 23 centuries.

He joins fellow local star Adam Gilchrist as an ambassador for 2009 in Western Australia.

He single-handedly redefined the role of the modern day wicketkeeper/batsman in all forms of cricket.
