AUSTRALIAN batsman Mike Hussey's Test average is precariously close to dipping below 50 for the first time in his career.
shame in that. Anything around the 50-mark is a pass for a Test batsman.
But at the age of 35, and for a player whose Test career started in such spectacular fashion, Hussey is just one more mediocre score from an average of 49-point-something.
His average, which was 86.18 after his first two years, now hangs at a career-low 50.12.
He's made just one century since rescuing his Test place with 121 in the last Ashes Test at The Oval in August last year.
Hussey has one more chance to make a more definitive statement or uncomfortable questions will follow him into the Ashes.
"Things can seem like they're going along very well when you're batting in India, but you can lose clumps of wickets pretty quickly if you're not careful," Hussey said before the second Test.
