Ricky Ponting's anguish was both personal and collective after a seven-wicket loss to India in the second Test at Bangalore, a result that only confirmed how great an opportunity the Australian captain's side had missed when unable to close out the first Test at Mohali.
His overall runs return - 224 runs at 56 - was his best and most consistent in some time.
"I don't feel like I did my bit with the bat," said Ponting.

Alongside Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson, Ponting plus Test specialists Simon Katich, Peter George and Marcus North will all return to Australia on Thursday.
This will provide them with plenty of opportunities to rest and also re-adjust to Australian conditions, their mastery of which will be pivotal to the quest for the Ashes.Alongside Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson, Ponting plus Test specialists Simon Katich, Peter George and Marcus North will all return to Australia on Thursday.
