RICKY Ponting is likely to quit one-day cricket after the World Cup 2011 .

No one should fall off their chair in shock when it happens, as his one-day retirement will allow him to extend his Test career long enough for his one last Ashes revenge mission in England.

Ponting says the coming Ashes series will lack the burning personal intensity he will carry to England in 2013.

The 2011 Cricket World Cup on the subcontinent offers him the chance to become the first player to win four in a row, and the first captain to claim three on the trot.

Ponting won't be around for the 2015 tournament so Australia can start their next four-year cycle without him.

"We'll get through these next six or seven months," Ponting said.
