Western Australia all-rounder Ashley Noffke retires from first-class cricket

Western Australia all-rounder Ashley Noffke announced his retirement from first-class cricket after the Warriors loss to Victoria.

Noffke announces Shield retirement.

The 33-year-old said he had hit a brick wall both physically and mentally in the longer form of the game and hoped the decision to retire would prolong his one-day career.

"It was definitely a mental thing through the pre-season early on and a lot of past players have said to me it hits you like a wall and that's what happened," Noffke said.

First-class debutant Duffield showed promise in snaring three first-innings wickets against Victoria while Noffke's retirement could thrust uncontracted paceman Dixon into the side for the upcoming Shield match against Adelaide, starting October 29.
Despite WA's horror injury run in the pace department, Noffke said it wasn't all doom and gloom.
The right-arm paceman never broke into Australia's Test team but did make the squad for the 2001 Ashes tour before playing two Twenty20s and a single one-day international for his country.
