Australia vice-captain Michael Clarke likely to miss Sheffield Shield clash with injured back

Australia's Ashes selection wobbles continue with Michael Clarke certain to withdraw from Wednesday's Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania because of a bad back.

Things are looking up, however, with Simon Katich and Doug Bollinger both putting their hand up to play after successfully passing fitness tests via district cricket on the weekend.

The batsman has suffered from a chronic back injury since he was a junior. The injury caused him to miss the Champions Trophy and a one-day tour of India last year.

At least selectors know that Clarke is in good form after he scored a first-innings century in the Shield game against Victoria which finished on Saturday and an unbeaten, but uncomfortable, 39 to hold out Victoria in the final hours.

Clarke was not taking calls but appeared to have opted for some old fashioned treatment by taking a hot mineral immersion late in the day.

"Hot Radox bath, candles on and a few of my fav tunes," he twittered.
