David Hussey day at the SCG

New South Wales v Victoria, Sheffield Shield, Sydney, 1st day

Victoria 4 for 211 (Hussey 102*, Hill 79) v New South Wales
With speculation raging about the make-up of the Australian Test team to face England, veteran David Hussey quietly smashed another glorious ton in Victoria's Sheffield Shield match against NSW at the SCG.

Coming to the crease with the Bushrangers teetering at 2-18 after just eight overs, Hussey slowly found his range before unleashing some field-splitting cover drives to reach 102 not out when heavy rain ended the day at the tea interval.

Hussey, who finished the 2009-10 Shield season as the competition's leading run scorer, hit 17 boundaries for his 40th first-class ton as Victoria reached 4-211 at stumps, with play to start early on Thursday to try to make up for time.

It was Hussey's day, with the 33-year-old bringing up his ton just before tea.

"I hit a couple of boundaries off Cameron and thought I might be able to get it before tea time and I was lucky enough to get it," Hussey said.

"I can come back tomorrow morning and there's probably no better feeling than coming back into a cricket ground a hundred not out.

"I was really happy the way I played today and hopefully I can go on tomorrow and make a really big score."

Hussey and Michael Hill (71) put on 133 for the third wicket, before the latter was caught at cover by Phil Hughes to give Watson his lone scalp.
