Fans invited to squad announcement

Australian cricket fans will have the chance to be part of Vodafone Ashes history on Monday when the Australia squad for the Vodafone Ashes is announced at a free public event on Sydney Harbour.

For the first time, fans will be present at an open-air announcement when Chairman of the National Selection Panel, Andrew Hilditch, unveils the much-awaited Australia squad to take on England in the first Vodafone Ashes Test, which begins at the ‘Gabba in Brisbane on November 25.

Those squad members who are in Sydney on Monday will appear on stage to be interviewed by Channel 9’s Ken Sutcliffe.

After the formalities are complete, fans will be able to collect autographs from the players, who will also be available for media interviews on stage.

The squad will be announced against the world-famous backdrop of Sydney’s Circular Quay and cricket fans should get down to First Fleet Park well before the 11.30 announcement time.

Depending on selection, it is envisaged that around eight players will be on stage and available for autographs and interview afterwards.

Captain Ricky Ponting, Vice-captain Michael Clarke and a host of other Australian Test stars will be present.
