A back injury has kept Michael Clarke from joining team-mates on Monday at Australia's net session ahead of Thursday's opening Ashes Test in Brisbane.
Clarke, who is battling a chronic back injury, was limited to walking laps as his team-mates completed training at Allan Border Field, leading to speculation the 29-year-old may not line up against England.
The vice-captain arrived in Brisbane a day ahead of his team-mates to continue treatment.
He confirmed this on Twitter, writing: "Just landed in Bris… very overcast but still pretty warm ... treatment from our great physio coming up," Clarke said.
Clarke aggravated the persistent injury while scoring a Sheffield Shield century for New South Wales this month and sat out the Blues' Shield loss to Tasmania last week.
Australia has brought an expanded 13-man squad to Brisbane because of the injury concerns, with young batting all rounder Steve Smith included as cover for Clarke along with Usman Khawaja.
"As there is some doubt over Michael Clarke's fitness for the Brisbane Test match, it was felt prudent to bring a standby player into the squad," Hilditch said.
"Usman has been added as a result of his strong recent domestic form and the NSP's belief that should the opportunity arise he has the ability to perform well at the international level."
"We intend to give Michael as much time as possible to prove his fitness and a decision on his availability will be made in consultation with the team’s medical staff after the next two days of training."
