The Ashes 2010: Mitchell Johnson to target Strauss and Pietersen

Mitchell Johnson, Australia's fast-bowling enigma, is to specifically target Andrew Strauss and Kevin Pietersen when the Ashes series sparks into life at The Gabba on Thursday.

"England really look up to their captain Andrew Strauss, and he is someone we need to target," Johnson said.

As for Pietersen, Johnson said: "He's a very fiery player — it's his nature. We've got a bit of history and that will probably continue through this series. Sometimes he wants you to go hard at him and give him a little bit. I think that's what he feeds off."

Mitchell Johnson - I'm coming for you, Andrew Strauss

MITCHELL Johnson is planning to re-acquaint Andrew Strauss with his Gabba bouncer blues in a daring assault that could unhinge England's Ashes campaign.

"I had a look at video footage of him under the short ball and he can play them when it's chest height, but when you get one on the money he really does struggle," Johnson said. "You have got to get your bouncer high to him, to be that aggressive bowler at him."

"They really look up to their captain, who is someone we really want to target."

"From there I didn't say anything to him or look him in the eye. I think sometimes he just wants you to go hard at him and give him a little bit."

Johnson said one of his goals was to narrow the gap between his best and worst, following advice from Glenn McGrath that this was a way to take his bowling to a higher plane.
