Katich injury scare

Australia opener Simon Katich has suffered a fresh injury scare a week out from the Ashes opener, damaging his left shoulder while fielding in NSW's Sheffield Shield clash with Tasmania at the SCG.

Katich, who is making his way back from a thumb injury, did not go out to open when the Blues' second innings got underway late on day one.

NSW team officials said this was a precautionary move and they expect him to bat at No. 3 or 4 when the match resumes on Thursday.

Scans have cleared the veteran left-hander of serious injury but Australian physio Alex Kountouris doesn't expect to know the full extent of the damage until the morning.

"He dived in the field and jarred up his shoulder," Kountouris explained.

"It was quite painful, as they are. He's in there (dressing room) icing up."

"It's always a worry but it doesn't look to be a serious injury."

"If he wakes up tomorrow morning and can't lift his arm it would be a worry but I'm not expecting that to happen."
"I expect he will be okay."

Another injury concern is the last thing the Australian camp needs a week out from the Ashes opener in Brisbane.
