NSW v Queensland, Sheffield Shield, Sydney, 3rd day
Queensland 213 (Robinson 77, O'Keefe 3-23, Bollinger 3-55) and 0 for 71 need another 343 runs to beat New South Wales 9 for 458 dec and 3 for 168 dec (Khawaja 78*, Henriques 53*)
His name is tossed up as a future Test star on a daily basis, but New South Wales run machine Usman Khawaja insists national selection could not be further from his mind.
Khawaja is the leading run scorer in first-class cricket this season having amassed 598 runs at an average of 75.
The in-form 24-year-old sent another timely reminder to selectors on Monday, blasting a quickfire 78 not out to leave New South Wales in a strong position at stumps on Day 3 against Queensland.
"You can't look that far ahead, the boys had a great win over in Perth so I'm just happy with these NSW boys right now," a patient Khawaja said.
Tasmania v WA, Sheffield Shield, Hobart
Tasmania 258 and 0 for 106 (Cosgrove 86*) beat Western Australia 108 and 255 (Robinson 98, Marsh 50, Butterworth 4-59) by 10 wickets
Mark Cosgrove demolished Western Australia for the second time in the match to drive Tasmania to a comfortable ten-wicket win on the third morning at Bellerive Oval. Set 106 for victory, the Tigers got there with ease, as Cosgrove blasted an unbeaten 86 from 53 deliveries, with his opening partner Ed Cowan on 18 when the winning runs arrived.
It continued Cosgrove's strong form after he made 100 in the first innings and since being axed by South Australia and given a lifeline by Tasmania, he has made 510 Sheffield Shield runs at 56.66.
"I think we're going to have to sit down now and make some serious decisions about where we want to go with the squad," Arthur told AAP. "There's no beating around that bush. We're clearly not able to challenge for Shield positions with the squad we've got."
