Tim Paine is likely to make an early return from a finger injury for Tasmania’s one-day cup match against WA at Bellerive Oval tomorrow.
The reserve Test wicketkeeper and top-order batsman broke his finger while playing in an exhibition match at the 'Gabba last month and had been expected to be out until early next year.
Tigers coach Tim Coyle said he would wait until the morning of the match before deciding whether or not Paine would play.
"We’re going to give him every chance... but at the same time, we’ll listen to the medical people," Coyle said.
"We actually had a hard session yesterday with a lot of volume and got back to one-day cricket," he said.
"If you take that as a forecast of how we’re going to play, I’d say we’re going to play a good game of cricket."
WA's players are officially on notice after coach Mickey Arthur said there would be sweeping changes to the team in the new year.
"I think we’re going to have to sit down now and make some serious decisions about where we want to go with the squad," he said.
Paceman Michael Duffield has been named in a 13-man squad, but Arthur said he would likely miss the next six weeks with stress fractures in his back.
