England opener Alastair Cook continues amazing start to Ashes series with yet another century

An Alastair Cook century has powered England to 2-317 at stumps on day two of the second Test at Adelaide Oval.

After bundling the Aussies out on day one for a disappointing 245 runs, Cook spearheaded the England charge and remains unbeaten on 136.

The left-hander belted 17 boundaries in an excellent batting exhibition as the visitors built a 72-run first innings lead.

Cook's ton continues a sensational start to the series for the 25 year-old, who has now racked up 438 runs in three Ashes innings after his 67 and 235 in the first Test at the Gabba.

Kevin Pietersen is 85 not out at the crease. He smashed 13 boundaries in a 141-run partnership with Cook.

The England No.3 could have been removed on six when Xavier Doherty missed the stumps from square leg in a potential run out after a mix-up with Cook before Australia's day one hero Mike Hussey dropped a catch at gully with Trott on 10.

Trott, who was also dropped by wicket keeper Brad Haddin, punished Australia's sloppy fielding and made them rue the missed chances.

Australia's best bowler on day two was Harris who finished with 1-51, while Bollinger ended the day on 1-76 in what was another disappointing day in Adelaide for the home side.
