Rain halts Vics, Bulls

Victoria v Queensland, Sheffield Shield, Melbourne, 2nd day

Queensland 9 for 287 (Hartley 80, Hopes 77, Wright 5-54, McKay 3-86) v Victoria

Steady rain dominated the second day of play in the Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and Queensland at the MCG.

The players were forced from the field at 11.56am local time and the rain was still falling at 4.00pm when the umpires decided to call stumps.

Play is scheduled to resume at 10.30am on Sunday with the Bulls 9-287 in their first innings.

Only 19 overs were possible on Saturday, but it was enough for Victorian paceman Damien Wright to claim three wickets to give him five for the innings so far.

Skipper James Hopes who helped to guide the Bulls from a parlous 5-89 to a more competitive 5-226 at stumps on day one was Wright's first victim caught behind by Matthew Wade from the 13th ball of the morning.

Luke Feldman is the other not out batsman on five.
