Aussies close to squaring serie Australia 268 & 309 England 187 & 81/5 day 3

Another ton to Mr Cricket

THE Sum of Huss: 517. Mike Hussey's history-making charge against England soared to greater heights yesterday when he became the first batsman in 133 years of Ashes Tests to record six consecutive half centuries.

The indefatigable 35-year-old marched to an inspirational ton as Australia raged against the England machine in the third Test at the WACA Ground.

Hussey's past six Test innings against England, starting from his second dig at The Oval last year, have been 121, 195, 93, 52, 61 and 116.

His average through that purple patch has been 106.3.

This series, this remarkable series, he has 517 runs at 103.4 to be the leading run scorer from either side.

But Hussey was freakish, formidable, bloody fantastic. The pull shot he unloaded off Chris Tremlett to reach his century sounded like a gun blast. He sprinted down the pitch towards the Australian dressing room, threw his arms in the air and pointed his bat at his teammates.

Watson wasn't in such a good mood earlier in the day when Tremlett screamed for an lbw verdict with the all-rounder on 95.

His marathon innings continued his incredible comeback from the brink of oblivion when he was one poor Sheffield Shield innings from being dumped by the Test selectors.

All the aggro of Australia's stirring fightback on day two had England full of pep yesterday morning.

Australian cricket was on its knees 48 hours ago, with a galling Ashes defeat on the horizon.

The mood has completely turned upside down.
